Summary:
This report presents the results and analysis of the Mada al-Carmel Survey
Research Unit’s survey of Palestinians in Israel and their opinions relating
to the Or Commission. The survey interviewed 522 Palestinians in Israel
in August 2003 and questioned them on the ability of the Commission to
justly investigate the tragic deaths of 13 Arab demonstrators in October
2000. The main area of questioning of respondents were in regards to their
support for the establishment of the Or Commission; other elements that
should be investigated yet have not been included; the predicted outcome
to the report and where the burden of responsibility for the clashes between
the police and demonstrators lie.
Even after almost three years since the events under investigation, the survey shows that 57 percent of the respondents were actively aware of the process of investigation. This illustrates how important the findings of the Or Commission will be to the Palestinian population in Israel and that there is still a high level of interest surrounding the delivery of justice.
The book is published in Arabic and Hebrew.
