Women's Program
The Women’s Program was established in the summer in 2003 with the intention of recognizing, supporting and encouraging female Palestinian students from Israel and the West Bank. Palestinian women in Israel are marginalized within three areas in Israeli society: as women in Palestinian society, as women in Israeli society and as Palestinians in Israeli society.
In academia this marginalization is acute, with less then 0.1 per cent of Professors in Israeli academic institutions being female Palestinians or one out of every 1,000. These figures are surprising given that there is a significant percentage of Palestinian women pursuing graduate studies at Israeli and foreign Universities.
The Women’s Program aims to provide young Palestinian women with support (financial, academic, and collegial) and opportunities to advance successful academic careers and to introduce new, gender-sensitive perspectives on social and political issues focusing on the Palestinian community inside Israel.
